Disability Evaluations in Ohio — Independent Medical Opinion

What Is a Disability Evaluation?

A disability evaluation is a comprehensive medical assessment that determines the nature, extent, and functional impact of a claimant's medical condition. Unlike a standard office visit, a disability evaluation is conducted by a physician with no prior treating relationship with the examinee, ensuring the opinion is objective and free from the advocacy bias that can sometimes affect treating physicians' reports.

Disability evaluations are used across multiple legal and administrative systems — including Ohio workers' compensation, private disability insurance, Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), and long-term disability benefit determinations.

 What a Disability Evaluation Addresses

Dr. Onamusi's disability evaluations assess the clinical validity of the claimed diagnosis, the functional limitations resulting from the condition, the claimant's ability to perform specific job tasks or activities of daily living, whether the condition is related to occupational exposure or injury, the expected duration of disability, and whether the claimed level of disability is consistent with the objective medical findings.

Who Requests Disability Evaluations?

Insurance carriers reviewing long-term disability claims, workers' compensation attorneys on both plaintiff and defense sides, third-party claims administrators, employers managing disability accommodation decisions, and the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation for contested disability determinations.
